PP Here: I should add when I filled out the parental questioneer form several years ago, one of the questions, on of the questions was about sense of humor. I provided examples of what she would say...

Actually, I have read that a sense of humor is a function of developing intelligence (don't remember where off the top of my head!). I remember how cool it was when my children first made their own jokes. It was even something the pediatrician asked about at well baby checks.

8:12 here: It is possible that it will miss some of the bright kids, but the classes will be more fun.

The AAP committee should just put all the 2nd graders in an audience with a comedian on stage and pull out the kids who are laughing and put them AAP and the kids with blank stares in Gen Ed.....

PP, you are genius!

I can tell which of my DD's fiends have been coached/prepped into AAP. I have talked to most of them, and based on getting jokes, you can tell the level of thinking. For example, to a 10 yo: Did you here Darth Vader was crying while reading the Harry Potter Series? He got to the part where Voldemort died. Smart kids get the connection of evil, and the find it funny...not so smart kids may not get it.

I'd take being juvenile over being an uptight helicopter parent any day.

Yes extremely juvenile what some parents will do to get that extra special gifted label for their DC. It is quite the status symbol in these parts.

But funny. Don't you get tired of all of the AAP hysteria? I get the anxiety, I really do, as I have one in AAP and one that will be evaluated soon. But honestly, people are a little over the top about it here. You have to be able to laugh at yourself.

Everyone, post your FAT
Did you receive your FAT in the mail? I was expecting them to mail it by now.
What is your child's FAT?
How FAT does your child need to be to get into AAP?
My snowflakes's FAT was not what I expected it to be. Can we prep or find a program to get a higher FAT?

And, the list goes on.

This change will bring a whole new layer of brevity to the VA schools forum.

Thanks Fairfax County Schools! Can't wait for next spring!

You know, you may be right! Maybe now we will hear kids saying, "I'm so worried that i wont be fat enough." I come here for entertainment and disbelief at how parents deal with this. Bring it on!!!
