Don't wear those shoes. They're casual and also ugly, sorry. Go to the mall, try on a lot of flats and find some comfortable neutral ones that you can wear with a lot of outfits. I don't know any specific brand of extra comfy flats, but you could start at Nordstrom. The shoe people there are helpful.

If I had to do dresses---i.e., someone was holding a gun to my head---I'd look for solid wrap dresses that hit fairly long so I could move. Garnet hill? Banana? I've gotten some pretty ones from there.

Wow, thanks, this has been so helpful! I do like the solid dresses someone posted. I am kind of accessory - handicapped, but I'm going to try it. I love the idea of the gray dress with a scarf. I also do like Boden and was planning to buy a few of the jersey dresses there.

I teach at a college, too, and I would go for something more professional-looking.

I love Athleta's stuff for weekend wear, but it just doesn't read as professional in a college setting. I also think that wearing all knits often looks sloppy, not professional. You could buy something still washable, like J Crew's cafe trouser and wear it is with sweaters and scarves or a tshirt and a blazer. Then you could still transition to taking your son to the playground pretty easily, but you wouldn't be wearing all jersey.

Sorry, I should have said, I'm 47. Kind of old.

I like both the dresses and the shoes. But I might get something a little more neutral, as one other poster said, if these are going to be your wardrobe staples.

I think the dresses seem a little too casual or sporty. I like the shoes, my SIL has those shoes in a couple different colors and they are really comfortable. She is a high school guidance counselor and wears them a lot with skirts and dresses.

I would choose more neutral or solid color dresses like the ones below and then you could wear jackets, sweaters, scarves, etc. with them to make them look different. I think riding boots sound good for boot weather.

How old are you? I think you could do better. Why not try Boden or Garnet Hill? And what about Ann Taylor LOFT? You could similar styles for cheaper at Nordstrom Rack.

I'm going back to work full-time in a few weeks and need a wardrobe. I teach at a college, so pretty much anything goes (jeans to suits, you see it all). I prefer to look professional, but comfort is a must. I have to do a lot of standing and a lot of walking back and forth across campus. Then I have to pick up my kid and do stuff with him. Really comfortable shoes are a must. Here are two dresses I am considering, and I'd wear them with riding boots all winter. What do you think? Also, what do you think of the Jambu pumps for non-boot weather? Will I look professional and reasonably fashionable or will my students feel sorry for me? I'm kind of short, average weight.
