This has actually been AMAZING for our son, but we also have a great provider and insurance covers it.

I'm the PP who's kid benefited from the listening program. It was about $2,000 total for us. I don't know where the PP's are getting $15,000. The special CD's where roughly $120 for a set of 3 (we did 12 sets coming to $1440). The headphones were $150. The CD player we got at best buy for $40 and we replaced it once. The belt to wear the player while moving around was $50. So, roughly $1640 for the program. If an OT is quoting $15,000 that seems to be WAY out of line. I would most definitely question that fee.

21:41 here. Listening program is not a waste of time and money across the board. It does not work for every kid. It did worked for mine. We did 12 CD's and stopped after that. I had heard stories that it was a bunch of hooey (like vision therapy). We borrowed the materials (headphones included) to make sure it was worth it. Once we saw a change in DS we invested in the headphones. I would not have invested otherwise.

For our Asperger's child: Floortime - we did a program where the therapist comes to our home to teach me to do it with DS. Pointless since he already plays/relates fine with me or any other grown up. It wasn't translating into his interactions with peers at school which was what we were looking for.

I'm glad the listening program came up because our OT kept trying to sell us on it.

The weighted vest I found useless.

Most sensory stuff has been useless. Our child enjoyed it, but we got much more bang for the buck from other things.

I did find OT helpful for writing and cutting, but sensory not so much.
