If he can't see, then it's reasonable to ask for that to be fixed. But your original post just said he has the worst seat, it's not reasonable to ask that to be changed.

A bigger issue is why don't they have a rug or carpet for the kids to sit on in kindergarten. So they have to sit at their desks all day? A big part of kindergarten is "carpet time".

Let us know what the teacher says/does. My kid was in the back of the classroom, but it didn't even occur to me to move him. They had a circle time every morning and that's how they learned their sight words (I used to volunteer in the classroom at the same time).

It is really strange there is no room in the classroom for the rug.

Op here, surprised by the responses. Kids in the class dont sit on the floor,, there is no room. When i walked in room yesterday to get my son the writing in the biard was so small i could not even see it from whwre he was sitting. I am requesting him to be changed. Not requesting him to ve switched wuth someone else, just want him to see! Just a Mom who wants to make sure her child can see the board!

Even if he does have his "own" seat on the carpet or at a table, the teacher will mix them up often. It's not like high school or anything.

Kids in kindergarten don't spend a lot of time(if any) in their seats being lectured from the front of the class. they spend quite a bit of time on the carpet, at centers and stations, and in activities, having snack, getting ready for the playground, bathroom and handwashing breaks, quiet time, reading circle etc.... They go to their seats at times to do seat work but the teacher walks all around during seat work so it makes no difference where the seat is. Often too the first week the teacher is getting a feel for the kids. By 2-3 weeks in s/he may make different seating arrangements - table groups or pairs or just moving kids around.

I would say nothing right now. Give it a couple weeks and see how things shake out.

You can always mention to your teacher if there a revision or distraction issues that s/he might want to take into account. But my experience is that the teachers usually catch onto seating problems very quickly and they seem to shuffle the whole class every few months anyway, at least in the early years.

How often do the kids sit in their seats in Kindergarten? When our DS was in Kindergarten they had a desk spot but spent most of the time on the carpet, special time a the teacher's desks and only ever really sat at the desk when doing seat work independently and quietly.

This is the third post today where an OP is looking for support in asking for special favors for her child. If the back seats are bad, how about advocating for ALL the kids and suggesting a different classroom setup rather than asking that some other kid get screwed over with the bad seat instead of yours?

Will he displace a mother kid or is there open space?

My kindergartners seat is all the way in the back. He has 27 kids in the class.and he has the worst.possible seat. Think he can get.away with not paying attention, etc..... Is it ok to ask the teacher.For him to change seats? I mentioned to her this morning that i did not like where he is sitting and she sais she will walk around, but when i came in to School there was very small writing on the board. Not happy about it. Thanks.
