OP here. Yes, I believe I am probably looking at some sort of a floating floor. I'm just not sure where to go (and who to trust). I really would prefer not to put down W2W carpet again.

Hardwood.. Especially if you have pets. The swiffer is my best friend

I'm renting a house that has hardwoods in some areas and fake wood (in a noticeably different color) in one room. It actually kind of works. I think it would look worse if the owner had tried to match it exactly.

OP here. No older ppl. No babies. I would do area rugs of course (as I do in the living room, dining room and all the bedrooms) to cover a small portion of the floor. If I do carpet it will be a berber this time.

Next question: I'm in MOCO. Can anyone recommend a company for hardwoods?

I would not assume old people like carpet. Carpet makes people trip and it is harder to run wheelchairs over it.

It's cheaper to throw down carpet, but so much more clean to do hardwood. Think of all the crap that gets trapped in carpeting! Do hardwood.

I need to replace the carpet in my house. I only have 1 room, staircase and a hallway upstairs to carpet. The rest of the house is original hardwoods. I would really like to attempt to match the hardwood and put it down in the family room (the stairs and hallway are already hardwood--as is most of the rest of the house. They would only need to be refinished). My family room is on a concrete slab. Two questions: 1) will I be able to match the hardwood or will the family room look weird--compared to the rest of the house?, 2) Is it cheaper to just re-carpet or to put down real wood, floating floor, pergo,--what are all the options out there?
