wow. i am shocked. I travel a lot, and end up taking the nice shampoo / conditioner / moisturizer bottles - but even then I feel guilty sometimes for taking them. Never occurred to me to take towels or any other hotel inventory that gets reused.

Some people think you are "supposed to". Seriously. When I was in high school our band went on an overnight field trip, and I ended up getting into a disagreement with some other student about this.

He insisted that hotels expect you to take the towels home--in the same way you would take those mini shampoo bottles. He said that's what his family had always done.

Okay this is a very strange collection. But how do you know they're not purchasing the towels and pillows? Many hotels charge for missing linens.

They sound like they're insane. Is the money good? I hope so. Otherwise I'd get the hell out.

So, we stay in hotels frequently, and I think I have maybe 3 hotel towels from over 20 years of hotel stays. The only times that I've taken a towel was in an emergency (say a cooler leaked in a car or when we had a last minute fragile item that we needed to cushion). I will take the hospitality items like shampoo and such. We don't use them personally (we can't as my wife is allergic to most of the chemical fragrances in such products), but once a year, I take all of the shampoos, body washes, etc to the soup kitchen where I volunteer and leave them for the clients to take. They love getting free personal care products. We also occasionally take the pad of paper or pens from the desk when we need them. Other than these items, I do not take anything out of the hotel that didn't come in with me.

You are working for petty thieves who have very questionable senses of ethics. I would be careful to have a very clearly documented contract with these people because clearly they abuse unwritten rules.

That's a lot of towels and pillows. Are they hoarders?

It's wrong, and I'm surprised the various hotels haven't charged them for the items. Maybe they have. But you woudn't know, so I guess just carry on.

I have been babysitting for this family for a couple of months and it has come to my attention that every time they go on vacation they come back with a load of hotel towels, napkins and salt n pepper dishes ( I usually fold their laundry ). I find this behavior quite weird and shameless to say the least and it definitely bothers me. I shared this with my DH the other day and he told me that he would "take " the hotel towels and robes were it not for me. What do you think of people who steal hotel towels and supplies? Am I being irrational?
