napfa.org is often recommended as a place to search for a fee-only certified financial planner. They do with your money only what you authorize them to do (up to controlling the money and making trades). The fees are published, often times a % of the money they are managing for you (about 1% but varies).
I've been searching for someone to do just a comprehensive "check up" for an hourly fee. From what I read, it's hard to find an advisor who will do only the review/recommendation part and doesn't want to also manage your money and collect the fees annually.
