Subject: Kindergarten supplies
They are pooled usually. Our school asks for specific brands for some items which is fine with me. I figure the teachers probably know which supplies the generic are just as good for and while supplies your better off with a name brand for quality.

Everything at our school for k has been pooled. The kids sit at tables, not desks, with supplies in the middle.

I want to go to pp's school. The pre-packaged supplies at our fcps school for first grade were $70. The good news was that in Kinder, we were never asked to bring any other supplies in for the entire year so I think it works well in the long run.

Rising kindergarten parent. When we visited their we're different stations that kids rotated between learning activities and each station had the supplies needed instead of the kids having to get them between each rotation. Just for a sense of the cost all of the supplies for my kindergartener bought through the PTA pack was $28.
Also in my childhood we had to buy the glue and scissors too, so while pooling is new to me, the school not providing glue isn't.

I'm new to the FCPS and my DD won't be starting for another couple of years, but can someone explain this to me? I mean, the purchasing of school supplies to pool? I've never encountered this before. Both DH and I recall having to get our own school supplies (e.g., pencils, paper, etc.) but having other things provided by the school (e.g., glue, scissors, etc.). My child's (starting K) sent home a letter including the list of school supplies. The list specified which items would be pooled and which would be in the child's own pencil box. Also, specified some brands but not for all items. I bought the pooled supplies (the brands as requested) and will get the pencil box and supplies for it when out shopping with my child. I like that the school did it this way so there isnt any question.

Our fcps specifically stated that all the supplies are pooled. Do I wouldn't pick out the pencils she likes, etc. (i bought the kit from the pta, which apparently well over half the school does. But focus the buy cute stuff on her backpack and lunch box.

OP here. They didn't put any brand names except for the scissors. But I'll buy Crayola crayons and markers just because I know they wash out and they truly are better.

You need to follow the instructions for what to buy to the letter. Brand and everything. Don't buy the cheap crayons if they want Crayola, for example. It really gums up the works and pisses the teachers off something fierce.

Curious because I am going shopping for dd and I thought I'd let her pick out things like pencils she might like, but don't want her to be upset if the ones she picked out go in a communal pool. Otherwise we'll just have fun buying it anyway. I figure tissues, wipes, etc are- just wondering about scissors, pencils, etc.
