All schools in FCPS follow the Standards of Learning and responsible for children learning those standards. How teachers teach and the materials they use vary from classroom to classroom and school by school. The school that I'm at uses the Investigations math program. It's a constructivist approach and doesn't use a textbook. Other schools may use it or they may use the textbook. But we all make sure that our students can demonstrate mastery of standards.

The curriculum is the same in the sense that every school should be following the same County pacing guides, Program of Studies, and SOLs. That does not mean that every child will be reading the same books and doing the same work.

There are several curricula, including several flavors/fragrances of TAG/AAP, and once you get to High School, several more than that. But ultimately the curricular distinctions are NOT geographic. Moving would change nothing in terms of differentiated-curriculum availability. High school, however, is very different.

I read on another thread that the curriculum is the same across the board, including at AAP centers. Can someone explain this to me? We just moved to Virginia from out of state.

Does this mean the kids read the same books and go over the exact same material at each school?

We currently live in Alexandria (Fairfax side) and am exploring moving to a better school district (Fairfax, McLean, Vienna). If the curriculum is indeed identical, we may decide to stay. We could always supplement with Kumon or similar.
