My concern wouldn't be about abuse but more that there really just isn't enough space. Adults (male or female) napping with the kids is just not a good recipe for good sleep. It sounds cramped.

I am not sure I would go for an apartment based daycare unless it was a penthouse suite!

To me it wouldn't matter if it was a man or woman-- no children in a daycare environment should sleep in the same room as an adult.

In our DC-based center, an AWAKE staff member is always in the room with the sleeping babies, observing. I think that's awesome, but unlikely to happen at an in-home place. DC #1 was at an in-home place, and while they didn't have a designated staff member observing babies sleeping, the cribs were in the living room where adults were either playing quietly with other kids, rocking other babies, or walking through to check on the babies. They also had monitors in there. I know that we all sleep at home while our babies sleep, so I'm not saying something bad will happen just because an adult is sleeping at the same time, but I'd prefer a place where adults would be monitoring to some extent while the baby slept - not avoiding the room all together b/c another adult was in there asleep.

Do NOT send your child there. I am sure most daycare worker'ss husbands are nice people. But it happened that several abuses that occurred in Fairfax and Prince William were committed by the husbands.

No, no, no! Never would I put my child there. If they want to run a business out of their apartment, they need to make sure they have an adequate space for the children. That's insane.

I do not think I would put my kid in a place where an adult male (I am not saying there are no female abusers) sleeps in the same room as the children and the DCP tells me I cannot see the room at that time. I did go to a home daycare during the nap time and the lady requested we tip toe and talk in hushed tones while in the room. That for me is acceptable but not what you had to encounter.

Ran into the same thing at a licensed day care. I passed it by. This was in Rockville in a townhouse.

pp again: regardless of the husband or child sleeping in the bedroom, you shouldn't join ANY daycare/school where you have not seen the entire facilities.

Is this a joke? Ah, no, it is not okay for daycare cribs to be in a bedroom where an adult, any adult, is sleeping. How could this be okay for licensing?

read protecting the gift - not because i think the husband is molesting children in the bedroom - but because it has good tips on picking daycares / nannies / schools / babysitters.

I toured 2 in-home daycares yesterday. Both are licensed. Both are in apartments, which doesn't thrill me, but I could get over that. I loved one of the women and would feel OK leaving my child there, but at the end of the interview, she said that at that moment, her husband was sleeping in their room, which is also where the cribs are, so I couldn't check it out. One of the children she cares for was sleeping too, so we didn't want to disturb him.

I understand space limitations, etc. But, am I crazy to be bothered by the fact that the husband was sleeping in the same room as someone else's child? I mean, I'm sure he's a wonderful man who would do nothing wrong, but something about the whole thing makes me nervous.
