You're going to have a hard time as a parent if you worry about what other people do - trust me!

I wouldn't let my 4 or 7 yo watch Ironman.

But, to each his/her own. Just not our thing. DH wouldn't let the kids watch either.

We don't show our 4 year old the movies. He does watch Superhero Squad and Avenger cartoons on Cartoon Network and old Spiderman cartoons from the 60-70s on Apple TV.

He LOVES Superheros, but I think the movies are not appropriate for his age.

His big brother wouldn't have been able to hand the cartoons at 4. We stuck to Sprout channel.

I use IMDB parental guides to determine what the kids can see.

But Ironman and Green Lantern for example are very different ends of the spectrum of PG-13.

I know my kids saw Ironman at 6 and 8 but we had a discussion about some more mature themes that I think a 4 yo might not even catch on to.

Green Lantern is pretty mild.

Batman movies are just boring so no we did not see those.

Spiderman is pretty mild and probably less scary than Harry Potter.

I think kids with older siblings/cousins/etc end up seeing more mature movies before let say an only child or a oldest. We just broke out all our Disney DVDs since my younger child missed that stage due to his brother telling him it was "baby" movies. Then he refused to watch "baby" movies.

The best thing to do is go to the rating site and read what the ratings mean. Remember that the movie makers want the maximum number of viewers at each movie for maximum profit and rate the movies accordingly. Sometimes they change scenes or take them out so the movie can get by with a lower rating so more people can see it. With all of that information, make the best decision for you and your family. I don't feel comfortable letting children under 13 watch PG13 movies, but I am definitely in the minority.

I don't let my kids watch it (6 and 4), but I really don't care what others do.

This is PP. I think at 4 they can begin to tell the difference between real and a movie. But seriously, keep them away from exposure to violence as long as you can.

My husband let my 3 year old watch about 30 min of ironman and I was MAD. It's not appropriate for that age and not really normal. Catching a bit of it while the adults are watching is not the end of the world, but lots of those movies over and over again is not a good idea. Your friends choices are not your business but you can decide now what you will let your kids watch.

Guidelines are there for a reason, my own waited til 8 for PG and 13 for PG13. That said have friends who let their 4 year old watch PG13 and another lets their 12 year old watch R.

Is this normal? I have a 6 month old, so I am not sure....My friend and her DH let their son watch Batman, Ironman, Green Lantern, Spiderman, etc. He has become OBSESSED with these movies and watches them over and over again. I dont even like to watch them b/c of all the violence. Can kids at this age differentiate between reality and a movie? Is this OK to do?
