Nope, unless MCPS decides to get crazy and do a broader boundary study. But I think that is VERY unlikely, especially wrt Kensington, where they (schools officials) have repeatedly sought to counter speculation about just this very kind of thing (speculation that occasionally finds its way here on DCUM, apparently there are periodic rumors that all of Kensington is going to be sent to Einstein, etc... MCPS has said no way, no changes envisioned.)

Bottom line: I've been following the new middle school process somewhat closely as a BCC-district parent, and there has been no indication to date that there is any possibility of redrawing the HS boundaries as part of the process. The push for the middle school is a result of overcrowding at Westland and the need to ensure all 6th graders receive a comparable education (currently those at NCC and CCES are not able to access the full middle school curriculum, so those populations will be moved to the new middle school once it opens.)

OP here. Currently Kensington-Parkwood feeds into North Bethesda Middle, then WJ. Since the new middle school will be located in Kensington, I was wondering whether our current middle and high school placements would be affected.

The new middle school will serve the BCC catchment. Are you in BCC or WJ at present? If its the latter you won't be affected by the new middle school.

I was on the committee to select the site for the new middle school, and there was absolutely zero discussion about adding new elementary schools from other clusters into the B-CC cluster, which is incredibly crowded from top to bottom even after taking the new middle school into account.

Technically, it's too early to ask these questions, but realistically, your answer is no.

I moved from the K-P district into the North Chevy Chase district, and did then (2003) and still do now consider them to be pretty much equal, quality wise. We were just trying to get closer in because we work in DC.

My son will start K at Parkwood Elementary this fall. By the time he's ready for middle school, the new middle school will most likely be built. Will he go to the new school or North Bethesda Middle school. Will the zoning for high school change too? Or is it too early to ask these questions?
