Our private school has a new rule against them but I have never seen them as a problem.

I teach kindergarten and lots of kids wear them, and I have not seen them as being too distracting--no more than any other time a kid wears new shoes to school.

My wife teaches elementary school in MCPS and she said that they are allowed, "much to my dismay." She said that the are a distraction to the young students. The distraction doesn't wear off.

My DD is entering Kindergarten.. She really would like some light up stride rite shoes and my spouse says we should get them. However, I'm not sure if they are appropriate or allowed by MCPS? Any thoughts/comments?
