Thank you for your replies. Right now we are not thinking about having DC take any extra language classes. Also if I am understand correctly SACC is after care...that also does not factor in. From another chart I understand that only 1 child from Flint Hill went to Sunrise Valley last year which means DC might not have any friends going to Thoreau(or Luther Jackson) in middle school.

I mentioned to her about the no competition thing at Sunrise Valley and she wasn't happy about that. Not that she was so competitive at her old school but I think she found it fun!

This is a big change for her and I want to make the right decision so she can fit socially and academically.

The membership page of Sunrise Valley states there were around 200 students in AAP at Sunrise Valley last year. So that would even out to be about 2 classes of 25 students for each grade.

Flint Hill shows approximately 105 students in AAP. I'm not sure why the number dropped down about 20 students in May to 86. Anyway, that would be about 25 students as well in each grade although I think for LLIV they do not have to keep these classes self contained so the class size could be higher.

Sorry, I know little about the two schools although they both sound like two good options. My guess would be that more Flint Hill students opt for Louise Archer than opt for Sunrise Valley since Louise Archer is so close by to Flint Hill. I also think a lot of Louise Archer students use Flint Hill for aftercare which is why their SACC list is pretty long. Not sure if SACC is in the mix of your decision or not. Sunrise Valley I see has a FLEX program which is basically a language program that you have to pay a couple hundred extra for. It looks like they offer it in the morning and afternoon.

That's pretty doubtful. If you look at the FCPS School Profile, they have about 200 in AAP across all the grades. That's roughly 50 kids per grade level, so they'd likely have two AAP classes per grade level.

Bump...DC got accepted to AAP level IV and we need to decide if it is Flint Hill or Sunrise Valley. Anyone else with any experience? Need to decide pretty quickly! Thanks!

FCPS is offering Foreign Language in the Elementary Schools (FLES) in more schools ("expanding" the program) in September (school year 2012-2013).

No, many school don't offer any foreign language, including Lousie Archer. Flint Hill is one of the new sites for foreign language expansion of the FLES program. They are getting Spanish. I don't know off hand if Sunrise Valley has it or not. Oakton is also one of the new sites.

That is good to hear about the LLIV at FLES 13:04. Is there any way for me to find out how many have opted to stay back at FLES and how many have gone to Sunrise Valley?

Most parents I know are quite happy with LLIV at FHES. They're getting Spanish next year too as part of FLES

16:16 here. I wasn't commenting on SV AAP, just explaining why someone assigned to SV AAP can't just opt for Archer instead. Sorry if that's how it came across.

From the above two posters I am gathering that Sunrise Valley is not a good option? If so why?I am okay with diversity etc. as long as the AAP classes are good there?
I have heard that it is better to go to a center than stay at the LLIV class. We are new here so my DC will be making new friends any way.

Flint Hill has two attendance areas that are not contiguous. The eastern half is assigned to AAP at Archer and the western half to AAP at Sunrise Valley. You can't opt for the AAP at Archer if you're in the area assigned to Sunrise Valley, but obviously you can stay at Flint Hill.
