What do you mean by "I find capture the best"?

Yes, shoes off in the house is best. We do have berber carpet on the few stairs which go from our garage to our first floor, and I sweep that carpeting several times a week and then vaccuum it once a week. I have an upright vaccuum, but don't have a problem doing the stairs. The hose attachment works great.

I always vacuum the stairs. it is easier with my Dyson, I can leave the heavier part at the bottom of the stairs. Before that I to carried the whole vaccuum up the stairs.

Ok, not such a big problem, but how do people keep the carpet on stairs clean? Our vacuum is really not up to the task as it is a heavy upright. It has an attachment for the hose that seems to be just for this but it doesn't work all that well and the hose isn't long enough to reach anyway. I was thinking of just sweeping them and hoping to get most of the dirt but am a little afraid I will just grind it in.
