You should absolutely take your personal preferences into account, just don't assume that life experience equals professional competence.

I don't think it's strange to prefer an older therapist. If you'd be more comfortable with someone more seasoned that's understandable.

Where are you looking (DC, MD, or VA)? I love mine- Carol Barnaby in Bethesda. She has really helped me with my anxiety and self-esteem issues.

Please recommend your therapist, and why you like them. Also, does anyone have experience with Rachel Kaplan, Rachel Wernicke, Megan Flood, Mavis Milne or Erin Peterson? Especially interested if you've had experience with self-esteem, parenting stress or pregnancy issues.
