Subject: Best play kitchen -- recommendations!
We also have the Ikea one. Took a while to assemble, but now we love it. Gender neutral, not bright plastic, simple. It also has risers so it can get a few inches higher as your child grows.

We have the melissa and doug one at the grandparent's house (red and blue and white) - its really great. At home, we have a much smaller one from Tugoh toys that was more expensive - $200 or so, but it came mostly assembled (just had to screw the big pieces together); the melissa and dough one had to be made from scratch pretty much and drove my dad crazy.

Have the kidcraft cook together kitchen and my kids love it. Big enough that more than one can use it but not too big. also, pretty neutral colors which was important for me.

My parents built a play kitchen for DD for her 2nd birthday (knock off of pottery barn style) and it has been a huge hit for the last year. I highly recommend getting a shopping cart to go with the kitchen. DD loves to "go shopping" with a purse slung over her shoulder and a baby or stuffed animal in the cart. Then she loads or unloads the food into the kitchen. I was honestly surprised by how much the cart improved her playing experience. We like that it was gender neutral (there's a lot of pink out there), had all of that major elements (Ikea's doesn't have a fridge), isn't huge (so it works well for our 2-year-old DS), and wasn't overly offensive looking (we have an open floor plan). The only con is that it takes a bit of effort to open the doors, but DS is fine with it now that he's 2 (had a bit of trouble when he first got it at 12 months).
We had this one and it fell apart after afew months. Plus it is very tiny so a kid over 3 or so is not going to enjoy it. Normally i think kids can enjoy play kitchens until 4 or 5 or even older.
