I think it is so funny that DCUM loo IRS feel they have a right to dictate Every aspect of a person's life if they are on assistance.

One poster wanted them to give hamburger money to the IRS. Another is mad because someone has access to a gym. Some kid has an iPad and there should be a law preventing it.

Get a grip. Poor People always have had some conveniences if they. An get them. It makes life bearable. And an information appliance isn't a bad thing for a kid to have. Free educational games.

I don't think in theory people who live in subsidized housing should be PURCHASING iPads or Beamers or 60" flat screen LCD tvs. However, some people get nice gifts from family members, or win prizes, or borrow cool things from friends.

Also, there is no way to tell in this case if the kid even lives there.

iPads are a well recognized learning tool, particularly for SN's children. Do I think public financing is necessary, No I would not support that, but if underprivileged can acquire one why not?

So? Really? I can't technically afford an iPad but I can afford a decent home in a good school district. I don't begrudge some kid in the projects an iPad.

And does this apt to gifts or donations? Poor people should only given be crap because you can't afford it

Maybe OP is against it because many non-poor, non-government assistance recipient, yet not rich, kids do not have it, nor can their families afford it.

It could be gifted, donated, borrowed, or paid for with now GA money.

And regardless, why is it a given that If you are poor, you must also never have nice things?

If OP isn't joking, his/her draconian and sadistic and idiotic position is frightening.

I think absolutely they should. My privileged daughter learns so much from our iPad, and those children don't have the same other community resources. This is one easy way for kids to get access to good educational programming.

I say no. Americans have no idea what real poverty is and this is just a case of laziness. Generational belief that the government owes them assistance and so they waste OUR taxpayer dollars on things like iPads and new shoes. [/quote

This is satire, right?

Agree about internet access. This is becoming essential to the job search these days.
