Yes - go for it - totally sexy!

My husband has one and wears it occasionally, and he can really pull it off. He's 6'4" and just overall a big burly guy and it somehow works. I have to say I was a little unsure when he would wear it out in public for non-events - but pretty much everyone has had positive comments or smiles - or nothing at all. I'm sure there are people who think it's feminine, or gay, but not one has had the courage to say it to him. Granted, he doesn't wear it to work - but every now and then on the weekends, good chance he's hanging out it in.

As far as the heat - you can get cotton ones...

I'm picking my kilt out right now from sportkilt for the upcoming Warrior Dash (I'm a woman though). I have male friends wearing them for the race as well, but I would think it was kind of strange if they wore them out on a regular basis.

There's a guy who works near me ( Federal Center SW) that I occasionally see wearing a kilt. Traditional plaid. He seems to pull it off.

There used to be a kilt-wearing bagpiper who played near Dupont Circle Metro. I wonder what happened to him? He used to play near the temporarily defunct south entrance, so perhaps he's had to relocate.

I say go for it. As long as you are confident and a real man. Because otherwise some people might give you unwanted trouble out in public. Even though it is not stereotypical clothing for gay men, remember there have been a number of people who were severely beaten by homophobes who thought they might be gay. People who are different and stand out find unwanted trouble from people with too much time on their hands.

Only if you're performing in a fife and drum band. Aren't most kilts wool? As a woman I can tell you that a wool skirt is still hotter than a pair of lightweight pants.

As an aside -- I was once behind a guy in the TSA line who was wearing a kilt. Interesting pat down.

Wearing a kilt to where? Isn't it a special occasion type of item and definitely not in 100 degree weather.

It has been so hot, that I have considered buying a kilt. I have a friend who has two and loves them. My wife is dubious. Men wearing kilts in Washington, DC -- what say you?
