University Apartments in Old Greenbelt. Otherwise look into renting a small house in the Hollywood neighborhood of College Park. Their elementary school is top notch.

It has been a few years, but I lived for a while at Summit Hills in Silver Spring, which feeds in Woodlin ES, which is highly regarded on DCUM and elsewhere. It is a big complex with multiple buildings, which may not be for everyone, but I thought the actual apartments were very nice and big.

These places all have different "feels" if that's important to you. I live in Takoma Park and we love our 100-year-old house, the diversity, and the closeness to metro, but the liberal politics aren't for everyone. My kids haven't been in the elementary school for several years now, so I won't comment on it.

Lots of apartments in Gaithersburg - Rio (where the Target, Kohls, etc. are). the apartments feed into Fallsmead ES in Rockville.

Thank you all very much for the very helpful suggestions. I have been searching for a couple of days . We like the suburban atmosphere in howard county. unfortunately, it's hard to find rental in the area with good schools.

You'll find more rentals in the Columbia area.

I don't know if there are rentals in Maple Lawn (which is off 216), but Fulton ES is an excellent school.

But my dad worked at UM for 40 years and we grew up in the 20723 zip code in Howard County. If you can find a house to rent in the Hammond Elementary School district, it's a great school. Hammond Village, Cherry Tree, Leisure Village are a few of the neighborhoods that feed into the school. It's right on Rt. 216 to Rt. 95. And alternates Rt. 29 and Rt. 1 if you need them.

Plenty of places in Takoma Park or close-in Silver Spring. Focus your search on 20912 and 20910.

Also - you might even be able to rent a small house with that budget.

We will move into the state with HD's new job at UMD, college park, in September. We atre looking for an apartment located in a safe and friendly community. we have a 4-year old boy, so the quality of the elementary school is our first concern. Due to our limited income, we are thinking to rent some where in Silver Spring. Any advise on which apartments we should rent? I'm pouring out my thanks in advance!
