Logan parent here. If your kid doesn't start Logan as a 3 year old you wont be able to get them into the school unless you are coming from another Montessori school.

I agree, it's hard to compare Logan to non-Montessori schools. It's apples and oranges. I suggest researching what Montessori is and then visiting the school.

Unless you are coming from another Montessori school, it's highly unlikely that you will get into Logan at any level beyond PS3.

Parents make their choices based on their research - and that could include their perceptions and preferences based on their own child's needs, such as "I prefer a Montessori school.." or "I prefer a traditional school, I don't think Montessori would work well for my student..."

When school philosophy is very different like Logan and Maury this is not as useful.

OP - you worry me. Your question seems to demonstrate a lack of understanding that Logan is Montessori and Maury is not. If you think your child will benefit from Montessori, then you want Logan.

Logan is a lottery based program. The lottery is held in Feb/March and a wait list is set up for those who don't gain admission. It is highly unlikely that you could get your child a place at Logan for K in 2012-13. If the school is managing the wait list as they should, you would go to the last place on a long list.

So, you have a year to visit Logan, enter the lottery for 1st grade, and decide then if your child is admitted, whether to take the slot.

I would choose Maury, easily. If you're still renting when DD is ready for MS, then you can move into the SH neighborhood. I assume the Logan question was a typo since Logan does not have neighborhood preference. Good Luck!

Maury is the better school (experienced teachers, consistently qualified stable staff, using better curriculum because autonomous). Its specials include science/think tank. It's small (300 students) and personal, to the advantage of both kids and parents. Good afterschool care. But Watkins has - as of now - a better middle school option.

Sorry. Maury vs Peabody/Watkins. DD will be entering K next year and we have the option to rent in any of these zones.

what grade? Watkins is grades 1 to 5, so assume you're not talking about PreK or K?
