I'm also in South Arlington considering private school for my child. I am also considering a handful of parochial schools in Arlington and DC fully aware that certain areas wouldn't be at the same level as non-Catholic school privates - mainly grounds and facilities, extent of offerings of extracurriculars and resource/gifted programs.

Arlington Science Focus is limited to certain N Arlington neighborhoods and Barcroft is outside that zone. Arlington Traditional, and the Spanish Immersion programs at Key and Claremont are countywide. Drew, Barrett and Campbell also have countywide programs, but they are primarily neighborhood schools. So there are lots of public options.

confused - I thought Barcroft was sought after!

Capitol Hill Day School is just off 295 (just after it changes from 395). We live just off route 50, and it is much closer to us than Burgundy or SSSA.

We work in DC, so all three of us carpool into the city every morning (25 minutes max--much faster (15 minutes) for weekend events at school) Child actually has a shorter day because we can get him from after school earlier than driving back to Arlington, etc, so he has more time at home. I also agree with PP, though about how awesome Arlington Public Schools are, all over the county, not just in North Arlington. Don't count the publics out!

S. Arlington resident and every one of my neighbors sends their kids to public. Barcroft, which I assume you will be zones for, is excellent. Lots of threads on Arlington and S. Arlington schools on this forum, but the bottom line is that there is no reason to avoid public if you are in Arlington, even if you happen to be south of 50.

We are considering buying a home just south of 50 in South Arlington (Barcroft neighborhood), which means we will likely send our kids to private school. Putting aside the very important considerations of whether our kids will be admitted and finding the right fit, it would be helpful to know about the various options available in terms of a reasonable commute. If you are in S. Arlington, can you let me know what schools you send your children to and how you find the commute? Thanks very much.
