No, I like the handful of good friends I have.

But I am jealous of families that have a lot of similar-aged families in their immediate neighborhood that all hang out.

I am surrounded by octogenarians. Very nice folks, but not the same.

No. I have become a misanthrope. I am a prime candidate for turning into a crazy cat lady except I hate cats.

I have a large social circle that's much bigger than I realized. I was planning a party and inviting only the people I know well (and their families) and my list was at 90. My group of friends has known each other for many years and I am the newest in the group having joined three or four years ago.
My kids are changing schools and I can only imagine the circle getting bigger. Oddly enough I am a pretty social person but I prefer small groups. I like to have just a couple of ladies over for wine vs. a large party.

What is large to you? 10 friends in a group? or 4/5?

I find that the best new connections are friends of friends. I meet people at weddings, parties, baby showers etc and if I have a nicer-than-usual conversation, I'll get their contact info and try to organize a follow-up meeting. They don't always turn into close friends, but even the one or two that have make it worth my while.

Totally agree with this. Too big of a social circle would overwhelm me, and I don't have time for the drama usually involved with a large social circle. I love what I have right now. It is the perfect balance.

Nope. The older you get, the more family and work responsibilities you have, the gladder you are that you have just a few good friends and not a cast of thousands.

I used to have a large group of friends in undergrad. After that, it has become impossible to find a group of like-minded women - at most, have had 1-1 friendships. And I see friends of mine, in other cities, able to make such connections even now. And that makes me envious Wonder if its just my circumstance or me..I do send out invitations and follow-up, but not too many responses.
