I am going for monitoring with Dr. Khan, he isn't my main doctor. At monitoring, he has been great. Explained in detail what he was going, what he was seeing, the measurements, etc. He told me where my estrogen should be at & what they will most likely do depending on the bloodwork results. Basically, set me up with info so I wasn't freaking out btwn the time of my monitoring appointment & when the nurse called with the "results". I thought he was gentle with the us (better than Dr. Nair who was crazy rough). I've also had monitoring from Osborne, also not my dr. She was very sweet, but gave me a deer-in-the highlights look when I asked her some questions during the visit - questions about the US results.

PS - this is 16:24 again - I am a new poster to this thread and not the PP from whom you wanted more info on the bad experiences. Just wanted to clarify.

I had Dr. Khan a couple of years ago, and he was fine. My first IVF was successful (had to go straight to IVF due to male factor). My main complaints with him were that he dismissed an issue I was having during stims that ultimately did not prevent me from getting pregnant, but was worrisome to me. Yes, it turned out to be nothing, but I felt like he wasn't concerned about it enough to look into it. (His response was, well, if the IVF doesn't work, we'll do further investigation. Since it worked, I never found out what caused the issue.)

My other issue was that he was not very gentle with the vaginal u/s. I had other docs/techs that did much better.

I hated the receptionist but I'm not sure if she is still there. I did not care for my nurse so much either (not Christine or Shirley, someone else). I did deal with Shirley a couple of times when my nurse wasn't there, and she was excellent - agree with PP.

Dr. Khan was not "warm & fuzzy" overall but he was caring and reassuring - or at least tried to be - during the diagnosis of male issues in our situation. I didn't love him but he was OK and our IVF worked so I was very grateful. I get the feeling that if you have any complicated issues, though, SG in general may not be the place for you since their approach does seem to be rather non-individualized - ie, they try you on their basic protocols first before trying anything "different."

Dr. Khan did a transfer for me so my experience is limited, but I was not impressed with his bedside manner. He wasn't rude or anything but clearly just wanted to get out of there was fast as he could and wasn't really interested in answering our questions.

I am now pregnant from an IVF cycle with Dr. Khan. My nurse was Christine. The staff in the Leesburg office is excellent, really really awesome. Everyone from receptionist to financial consultant to the ladies that order meds and do bloodwork are super on top of things. Christine almost always answered emails and phone calls within about an hour. I actually meant someone recently at a baby shower who also had Dr. Khan and Christine (also pregnant from IVF) and she had the same experience. I read a lot of negative things about Shady Grove feeling like a factory, and I did not have that experience at all in Leesburg.
All of that being said, I think if your case is not complicated, you should be fine with Dr. Khan. I was to the point after 2 failed IVF cycles that I had made an appointment elsewhere for a consultation while in my 2ww for IVF #3 (when I finally got a positive!). My positive was on my first frozen cycle, so for me I think it was just that my body didn't like all the meds from the fresh cycles. But, I did have a great result with both fresh cycles on the protocol Dr. Khan put me on... my embryos just didn't take. He is knowledgeable and has a good bedside manner - and was much more gentle than some of the docs I had to see on the weekends at other offices. I'm just not sure how 'out of the box' he thinks. If you've already done testing, it is probably worth at least doing a consult with him to see what he would do in your case.

I was in the mid thirties when diagnosed with infertility with unknown cause. Did IUI three times with no success. Dr Khan then suggested IVF. I followed all the protocol Dr Khan prescribed and had quite a few blastocysts. Another doc (SG rotates docs who does the embryo transfer. So the doc who does the actual transfer may not be the one you normally work with) transferred one fresh blastocyst in my first cycle. I gave birth to my first son nine months later. Two years later I went back to have another frozen embryo transfered. I was pregnant but miscarried after one month. I waited for one month and started a new cycle. This time I got pregnant and gave birth to my second son.

I was a patient of Dr Khan. He is nice and his nurse Shirley is very caring. I have two boys three years apart after undergoing treatment with him.

He wasn't in independent practice, but a smaller practice for just a short time before he and another of the practice's docs (Dr. Chang) joined SG. I saw Dr. Khan when he was at that smaller practice. I did not have a good experience with him. At all. In fact, I switched to SG after my experience with him, and then a month or so later found out he and Dr. Chang were moving to SG.
Anyway, my experience was bad but he was young and inexperienced (just out of residency/fellowship I'm pretty sure.) I presume he's improved.

I went to Dr Khan and we had a successful IVF cycle. I found that it was my nurse that made the difference because I dealt the most with her. Her name was Shirley Barrick, and she was extremely knowledgable and caring. Dr Khan knows his stuff and managed my case well. I think it really depends on your case. SG has a great lab, and that was important because we needed ICSI and they do a high volume and have a lot of practice with that.

My SIL saw him for her IVF and we have our one year old nephew as a result. She has/had PCOS and the IVF worked on the first try.

I dont have experience but my OBGYN recommended him to me and said she heard good things...I am at the point of cycling out of state now. My RE actually recommended Dr. Brown in the Fair Oaks office though...

Oh- and I heard that he was originally in a single practice that was then bought out by Shady Grove.

Anyone know how I can look up his individual success rates from when he was part of an individual practice?

Does anyone have experience with him? Obviously I care about how nice he is, etc., but what I really care about are his rates. What about his nurse?

I've moved from DC where I saw both Osbourne and Widra if that's any basis for comparison.
