I would prefer to use Safeway becuase they are a local company and have a lot of organic groceries, but their delivery website is very confusing. It doesn't say anywhere on it how much it is to have the groceries delivered or what the delivery schedule is. How do you find this out? (How much is it?...)

And of course, I meant "When IN doubt"...

My rule on tipping is, when it doubt, shell out. Chances are, your $10 will mean a lot more to a deliveryperson's bottom line than it will to your own. Especially if you're getting services like a taxi ride, a pedicure, table service, or grocery delivery. It's a small price to pay (literally) for the distinction of generosity, don't you think?

Is there definite evidence that Peapod charges more for an item than in the store (excluding the delivery charge of course). I often wondered this, but just assumed they wouldn't dared do that.

I also wondered how much to tip the driver. My husband was deployed to Louisiana due to the hurricanes and I'm left home w/ a toddler & baby. So I turned to grocery delivery, which I found very convenient. I agree w/ not having any "impulse purchases" and it was great being able to shop isle by isle and then being able to review each products before paying. While in the store, it's hard to look at every item you have in your cart.
I'll see how my delivery guy is, I think I'll go w/ the $5.

The delivery was about $10 I think, totally worth it, but each item was more expensive than it would be if I bought it in the store, so it's like paying for delivery with each item. Still worth it, but maybe not every week.

Thanks for pointing this out. I didn't even notice, but wondered why it seemed expensive at the end...

I justify it by saying "think of all the impulse purchases I didn't make at the store"

Thanks for the responses. I did tip the driver. It's all still worth not having to shop with two small kids but it does add up!!

I also tip $5. One time I had the driver cheerfully announce: "tips are not included in the price". I thought that was rude but tipped anyway.

I've been using them for 6 months. At first I didn't but now I give them $5.

I'm getting our first Peapod delivery this morning. Should I tip the driver? If so, how much? Thanks.
