If this will be your first child, then get over it and just do what is required. Parenting is a both a joy and a hell of a lot of work and sacrifice. But, this paperwork stuff is a minor detail along the way. Parenting is much more challenging than this minor inconvenience. Stop whining. Adoptive mother.

I didn't find it so bad with our international adoption (kind of enjoyed in a sick way), but now that we have two kids, I think finding the time to get it done would be the hardest part.

I actually didn't find filling out paperwork as daunting as gathering up paperwork and getting it notarized and then getting it apostilled (international adoption). That was a huge pain.

Sorry it is so crappy, OP!! I remember when my cousin was going through it and at one of the lowest moments (you know those...) he said, "it's just so hard jumping through all of these hoops and writing out my life story to prove that my wife and I are more deserving than all of the other just as deserving couples out there for someone who couldn't figure out how to use birth control." We just laughed at the silliness of the perfect, mistake-free life the adoptive parents are supposed to have, and then we had a bowl of ice cream.

There should be an alternative process that does not require paperwork. It could be like Survivor or something: They find you when you have a cold and sore throat and they hand you a crying baby who wants to be walked and sung to. Can you power through? Win!
It's 11:45 on a Saturday. You have nothing for lunch in your house. Here's a cart with a hungry two-year-old in it. Can you buy enough food to get you through the next three meals without going slap out of your mind? Win!

OP I had a friend who went through this paperwork and then moved to a new house. She and her husband didn't change, just the house changed. But they still had to fill out all new paperwork! They didn't need a new house visit, just new paper work (same information). Made no sense.
It's almost like they are daring you to adopt!

Did it three times and twice had to update home studies because the paperwork expired. Hated it each time. But its so worth it.

Hang in there. I know it is awful and had filled out more than my share but have two thriving children now. (Went through the process twice.)
As to fingerprints changing, I asked the cop who fingerprinted me the second time and he explained they can differ (e.g., you slice off a fingertip or lose one or more fingers or just badly injure one finger (very deep cut, major burn). Then it will be different.
