This was such a strange post I had to ask my husband his thoughts.

His response -- "my guess is that he's not actually on the can; he's just sitting in there, chewing tobacco."

Over 2 hours a day? Really? Not being snarky, just genuinely surprised. I think my husband is about 15 minutes, and that seems long to me (for once/day).

I think he's chewing tobacco in his new hiding place.

I'd be more concerned about 2+ hours/day on the toilet.

There was a House episode in which the patient was pooping through the mouth. She didn't poop tobacco, though.

This is an interesting mystery. Please let us know what is going on when you solve it.

If he isn't chewing and he isn't reading but really pooping, he should check in with a gastroenterologist. And maybe have a colonoscopy. No idea about the breath.

I would be more worried about why he is down there so damn long, sounds like he is hiding out from having things to do like helping out. I would be annoyed. Insist he start taking some Miralax or something. Who has that kind of time?

First of all, I'm not some juvenile posting this for kicks. I'm also not a troll.

My DH is one of those guys who loves spending time in the toilet doing his 'business'. I find it annoying sometimes because he can literally spent 45 mintues sitting on the toilet - three times a day! Luckily, we've got a downstairs bathroom that he uses - uses so much that even the kids have started to refer to it as his 'man cave'.

For the past year or so, I can always tell he's been down to do his business because his breath smells. It smells like chewing tobacco. I, of course, asked him if he were chewing and denied it. I didn't believe him but we recently got additional life insurance policies and he tested negative for tobacco. I'm still not convinced he's not chewing but I've found no other evidence of it and when we've been on vacation, etc., I've also smelled it. A few years ago, he cut out all carbs and he experienced ketosis, his breath was horrible. But, while I don't find this smell pleasant, it's not horrible. It smells like chew.

So, is he secretly chewing? Any ideas what might be causing it if it's not chew?
