Was it this guy?

Tommy Clack accused of scamming residents

Prosecutors say what Keith Hogie's home security cameras captured in Laurel is a part of text book scam that a suspect, Tommy Clack, has allegedly pulled time and time again.

He'll claim to have leftover materials from another job and offer to pave a driveway for a steal. But when the work is done, the price goes way up.

maybe they were using your driveway and poured the gravel so not to rut it too badly which would have ended up costing them more to fix.

Before they lay blacktop, they have to lay a layer of gravel so it won't hurt your plans going forward. I agree that they probably did this as a convenience to themselves because they brought too much. If you never see your neighbors, I wouldn't make a big deal about it. If they come over and bring it up, tell them the truth that you didn't want it but you are willing to overlook the inconvenience.

It probably would've been more expensive for the contractor to return the gravel if they even could. Wear old shoes out ( wasn't the mud already wrecking your shoes?) and enjoy

I assume the contractor bid a job including materials. As long as the job gets done and the contractor doesn't ask for money to buy more gravel, you're in the clear.

Thanks. I never see them. Don't know when I could talk to them. I'm not even sure if they're staying at home through their renovations. I could leave a note, but if its really that cheap then maybe I should just leave it.

It probably was in fact extra - you have to buy stuff like that in bulk. I wouldn't worry about the neighbors. When you get it paved eventually they should be able to cover right over it.

Tell your neighbor what happened and let them deal with it as the issue is between them and the contractor. you didn't ask for them to do it.

one, I recommend talking to neighbors in general. Unless there's a reason you can't talk to them, I'd just mention what the contractor did. Say that you didn't ask for it, and it's not really what you wanted, but you're okay with leaving it as it is. That way, you don't have to wonder if your neighbor wonders. I think it's a little risky of that worker to have done it, in case you had insisted they remove it. (though it sounds practical and well-intentioned.)

Well, its not really a favor. My shoes already look worse for it. I'm still going to go ahead and get the driveway paved "eventually." I'm slow at these things. However, I feel like I stole material that they paid for.

+1

Up to you to decide whether they did you a favor or not.

Ok, so our neighbors are having major renovations done on their house. Our driveway is in the back, and its quite a mess (was pretty much just mud). (Actually, I've been looking at contractors to get it paved). Anyway, I think one of the guys doing construction took a liking to me. I came home to find my driveway covered with gravel. He told me they had extra material, so he went ahead and "fixed" our driveway. I wasn't actually looking to get gravel, since its really awful on my heels. However, now the question comes up...the construction crew basically gave us material that our neighbors have paid for. What do I do? Do I offer them money or acknowledge it in some way? We don't actually talk to them.
