OP here. I think this is absurd. It is the 4th of July. It is hot. Kids will not be sleeping early because of the heat anyway. To me it would have been a relief to set off our fireworks. And I can't quite believe the arrogance of trying to tell others not to have their perfectly legal noisy fun on a publicly sanctioned noisy national holiday because you don't want to. I'm think anyone who says this would probably not set off fireworks, power or not. Busybody.

So, wait until their power comes on, and then fire them off. Also, light them on the 4th too.

Well, my 5 year old daughter is terrified of both the dark and fireworks, so it definitely would be a big problem for my family but I would guess we'd be in the minority.

How would it disturb those wit put power more than those with power? I love the crazies on the dc neighborhood listservs.

OP here. These are just the standard DC fireworks that you buy at a stand. They are legal.

I don't get what the fireworks have to do with having no power. How would it disturb people specifically with no power? It's not like the sound of one's AC will drown out the noise. Confused. . .

Saw this posted on the listserve. I don't really get the rationale. You don't have power, so not setting off fireworks helps...how, exactly?

How loud are they? I didn't think the ones that are legal in DC are particularly loud. ?

We have a neighbor in TT/AU Park (not right next door, but nearby) that is admonishing others not to fire off their fireworks because it might disturb people who still do not have power on. We only recently got our power back and we are definitely planning to light them tonight. We also have very young kids, 4 of them, actually. We were going to light them even if we had no power (let us do something with all the unrelenting heat!) Does this seem reasonable or is this person just being a huge busybody overly controlling of others?
