Watch Income Property on HGTV. Dude always uses white appliances for the rentals, and it looks pretty good when done well.

And this -

The black granite really sets off the white beautifully.

There are probably more threads on white appliances. I used to camp out in their kitchen forum when I did ours.

Take a trip to Ikea and look at their kitchens to get ideas, as you mentioned wanting it to be contemporary. please do not go with maple or any other light wood.

Don't go with cherry, either.

We have white cabinets with black honed granite, and I think it looks great.

Go all white cabinets with dark countertops, maybe something dark gray or black.

What would you do cabinet and counter wise? If I were to live here, I'd want white or light painted cabinets and marble countertops--but marble is dumb for renters as they won't care for it.
Thoughts.
Thx

You could go all white with counter and paint as accent.

Google images for white apps and cherry or dark wood cabinets. I found some cool images...especially with modern, dark cabinets and sleek counters.

I too agree that white appliances make the kitchen look outdated. And unfortunately they do not give you too many options in terms of bringing the kitchen up to date. With that said I agree with the PP. Please no maple or light would. I would do white cabinets with a light coloured/maybe gray? granite.

Cherry cabinets with granite counters. I know someone who recently did a high-end kitchen Reno like this with white appliances and it looks great.
