Toddler DD has red, white and blue top. I'll probably be in a navy blue shirt and a khaki skirt. No red in my wardrobe. DH will probably be in a blue or red golf shirt and khaki shorts as well.

My husband LOVES loves loves dressing up on holidays - the Halloween tie, the giant flag shirt, the Christmas sweater.

It wasn't until my mid 30s that I adopted the mantra adults do not dress in costumes unless it is a costume party - picked up from What Not To Wear.

But I think What Not to Wear show extreme cases, like the woman who had a holiday sweatshirt for every occasion. I think a subtle outfit with a nod to the holiday is entirely appropriate (your red shorts). I might even take it a step further with a blue belt, but maybe that is the step too far?

I was just thinking last night of my 4th outfit. I might do brown shorts, white t, and red belt and sandals.
