My 10 year old once asked me if I was sad I didn't have a vagina (I'm her mom, so in fact I do). After telling her I do indeed have a vagina I found out that she thought because I had her and her younger siblings (just had our youngest dc) via c section that ment I was vagina-less. "sorry mom I figured that's why they cut your stomach open because you had no baby hole next to your pee hole".

Where do you think your child picked up this term? TV? Computer? Other kids?

OP, it is daunting but I think it is best to try to answer as honestly as you can, and NOT say I'll tell you when you are older.

The more matter of fact you can be the better and you keep the lines of communication open with your child. You want your child to feel he can ask you anything -- better to have information coming from you than from friends, in my opinion.
