When in DC, you have to get Ethiopian food! The DC area is home to the largest Ethiopian population outside Addis Ababa, so the food is really authentic and good. And it is very veggie-friendly too. For the most authentic, try Habesha Market, but it's like a deli where all the Ethiopians eat. For a nice sit-down meal (not pricey though) go to Etete. For a fun cultural experience with live music and dance as well, go to Dukem. Bonus: they're all within easy walking distance from each other, so you can take a look for yourself and decide. Not walking distance from Capitol Hill, but very easy to get to by Metro.

Also, depending on when you go, you may need a reservation for Rasika.

Thanks for the suggestion! That looks perfect. My husband, who is from DC said I should also ask about anything in the Logan Circle area.

Rasika is not in Capitol Hill btw, but it is close by in Penn Quarter.

Rasika. Get the palak chaat and the avocado banana chaat. Those are the absolute starts of the menu in my opinion. The black cod is delicious too if you eat fish.

We are visiting DC in a few weeks and would love some restaurant suggestions. We will be staying on Capitol Hill and looking for great, vegetarian friendly fare. Ethnic food is a plus, upscale but not super fancy or expensive. We have a well behaved four year old who will eat anything. Any suggestions appreciated!
