This. What the pres can do is focus on social issues and that worries me. Would suck to see Egypt regress when in so many ways it's been a moderate country. But that would affect actual Egyptians, which most people here don't seem to care about. At least, all the post are about how it affects the US.

Egyptian economy is tourist driven, and the military gets 1 Bil a yr from us to keep the peace with Israel and keep the country safe for toursism. If either power center fails. Yes we should worry, but only about a military coup

Rain on the 4th of July! Obama's fault, can't wait for November!

You fool. Your own party clamored for democracy, and Egypt had the first free elections in our lifetime. Have faith in the institutions you preach with such confidence. What's more, nobody (and I mean NOBODY) considered intervening on behalf of Mubarak. And lastly, he's in a coma, so chaos would have come if somehow we propped him up for another year.

I love this, because the Republicans don't know how to spin this yet. Is it a Bush success due to Arab Spring? Is it an Islamofascist disaster? What should Barack Obama have done?

Nobody on the right can agree. And they won't because most of them don't even know who this guy is, or what kind of government he is going to build. And they don't care to find out. The dumbest will knee-jerk react at the guy's religion. The second dumbest are pretty sure it's bad, but don't exactly what is going on. So they state their fear in the form of a question. Like the OP.

Not really. The brotherhood is is more like christian conservatives here--not exactly inclusive, but not dangerous. They'll care about trade and tourism more than religion. The salafis are much more concerning.
