OP here. Is casual attire ok for dinner? It will be hot and they will probably be in shorts and t-shirts. Will MS kids like it?

Thanks for the great suggestions. We changed our plans will meet for dinner instead. I'll definitely look into the places recommended!

Yes, if you're not wedded to a restaurant with sit-down service, this is an interesting place to go. They offer food in the style of various Indian tribes.

My family members seem to like Old Ebbitt. They love being so close to the White House. They also like CG's and Jaleo.

Stay away from POV (and Chef Geoff's for that matter). I think the Source has views, and J&G has an ok view. Paul maybe?

Over by the Capitol there's Good Stuff Eatery and We the Pizza.

Great suggestions. Keep 'em coming. Is there someplace that serves lunch with a view of the city (POV at the W seems to be open only for dinner)?

PP's suggestions in penn quarter are good. On the Mall itself I like Mitsitam cafe at the Museum of the American Indian. Showcases seasonal foods from the different regions in America - northwest coast, great plains, south America etc.
