I don't go to church. My family is Catholic. I am liberal (their son is as well). I don't want to move to rural Alabama to live closer to them.

well, compared to the train wreck that is any relationship my brother-in-law has ever had, I'm a zillion times better. I think they keep their mouths shut about my "flaws" because of this.

If I had to guess what they may not like about me, it would probably be that I am highly opinionated, which leads to me not being able to hold my tongue sometimes with the bullshit that goes down in their house involving my brother-in-law and his baby momma and 2 young kids. I'm frustrated with all of them at this point, even as much as I love my in laws and think they are good people. That is actually their downfall - they are too nice and have allowed the situation to get out of hand because they are afraid to put their foot down/show tough love.

I also am NOT a Texan (nor do I ever plan to be) and not domestic in the least. But, again, I think they are happy that their son (who struggled a bit and joined the military out of HS) met someone who has her head on straight, went to college, has goals, isn't certifiable and isn't going to be mooching off them until they die. As I said, a zillion times better than my BIL's women

I drink. My husband drinks, my parents drink. This makes us alcoholics all around.

One time my house was a real mess and my MIL had to clean it (granted, I was clear across the country).

Perhaps it's a sign of our relationship quality that I don't entirely know.

On the other hand, when MIL and BIL told DH a laundry list of little things they hated about me when DH and I got engaged, DH did not have presence of mind to keep that to himself, and let me tell you that was awful.

So, I live in blissful ignorance. I think MIL would prefer to have more control as the "family matriarch" and wishes I would join in more of the "We are the ___ family and we do things our own special way and aren't we great?" mentality, but I did not marry DH to become a _____ family cheerleader.

They think I'm uptight.

I like to spend time alone, so I must dislike them.

My FIL cannot walk around in his tighty-whities while I am around. OH wait, he still does.

I'm not superstitious.
I frequently refer to Snopes when they send me crazy emails.

But they like and love me, in spite of these things, and I like and love them, too.

I'm also preparing for a mini-"vacation" with in-laws and was intrigued by the other OP who wrote from her MIl's perspective in the middle of her thread - kind of things the MIl doesn't like about DIL... and was wondering what the rest of you suspect your In laws dislike you for,

I "took" *maybe "stole" is an even better word) my DH away from his family. We met in DC and now live in VA. They live in Ohio and remind him constantly that he always "promised" to return home... and they blame me for "keeping" him out here.

I am also not fashionable enough for them (i don't flaunt labels) and don't read enough fashion magazines.
