OP shouldn't be thinking about this at all. Seriously, be a kid. The worst thing you could do is start assuming you are going to get into a great school because of something that happened in 7th grade.

I'm 12:00 and I actually admire OP's initiative. I don't get the impression OP is spending all her waking hours on DCUM with the bitter parents and the trolls. Although compared to some other possible internet sites OP could be visiting, DCUM is probably fairly tame. Anyway, I'm hoping this was a spurt of enthusiasm.

One thing OP: Do your parents know you are on this forum? I would really be concerned about the well being of a 12-13 year old who posts on a forum frequented by pregnant moms and embittered middle aged folks. I mean this sincerely and as nicely as possible, but you should look elsewhere for info and entertainment. Do you not have an adult in your life to discuss this with in person?

(I'm the poster) thank you both for posting! You are right, I am pretty young going to eight grade but I mean it was just one of those 'heat of the moment' things where they got us all pumped up about the subject. Although I am an introvert, I still do have a wide circle of friends whom i constantly hang out with, do lots of sports (been on the basketball team for quite a few years now) along with swimming and the like and live what I see a full life. And about my math score being much higher than my other scores, I do have kind of a liking for math above all the subjects and I tend to perform at my peak whilst doing something I enjoy. Congrats on the good scores! It's a little early to start thinking about colleges until you are a bit older and ready to make decisions about urban vs. rural, big vs. small, tech vs. ivy, and all the rest. Trust me, you will have strong opinions about each of these in a few years!

Meanwhile, the best way to get up the writing and critical reading scores (which aren't bad at all, but lower than your math scores), at least at your age, is probably to read a ton. And read challenging books - not just the fun books, but books that make you think.

Colleges look at other variables besides test scores. For example, they look at whether you seem to have a passion, and leadership in school or other activities. Frankly, it's a little early to worry about these things in 7th and 8th grade. But it's probably useful to know about them, in a general sort of way, as you figure out what your passions are. And you're still young, so take time to figure out what you like!

here's my advice: go to bed (what are you doing posting at 3:14am?!), have a fun summer, study hard, enjoy your friends, finish middle school, survive high school, do good at home and in your community, keep studying hard, be a kid. You will get into a good school. Stop overplanning.

My school is one of the schools which are into the "SAT tests for 7th and 8th graders" thing. Furthermore, it was the real thing, not one of those spin offs for our age, but the official SAT that they give to the juniors and seniors. It was without preparation, and I think they got the parents consent without us knowing so we wouldn't be able to study and they didn't tell us till the last day before it. They were really nice about it though and let us refuse if we didn't want to.

Anyway, my scores were 570 writing, 580 critical reading, 680 math, 10 essay, 1260 math+cr, and 1830 total. It was one of the highest scores in the grade. Which colleges might be in my reach, assuming around 2000 on sat in junior year and an engineering major? (Place doesnt matter, but not a very small college)
