Our school allowed volunteers for kindergarten. I think it made a big difference for differentiation and just classroom flow. I'm not looking forward to 1st grade where they don't have volunteers. Doesn't make much sense why they have an aide and volunteers in kindergarten but neither from 1st grade on.

25 is low. We had 27 last year, and 31 the year before. This is AAP.

Interesting. What are the requirements for Title I. We have a good percentage of FARMs students at our school. I wonder if we're close. I'd love to have smaller classes.

Another at a Title I school. My DC was in a Young Scholars class and had 18 kids in 2nd grade. Had a wonderful teacher who grouped the students for math, reading, and writing. Cannot say enough great things about it!

We are at another Title I school. My son had 17 in his K class, with a teacher, aide, special ed teacher and aide. It was an AMAZING year. We had opted out of said Title I school for our oldest, who has had 27-30 children every year. This was the biggest reason we decided to give the neighborhood school a chance for our middle son for K. Our daughter will also be in K next year, and will attend our neighborhood (Title I school).

Mount Eagle ES. It's a Title I school and while others might scoff at the idea of attending a school with poor children, we have found it to be a hidden gem. My daughter is thriving there, and ds will enroll next year in kindergarten.

Which school is that and how do they have those "caps" when other FCPS do not?

Our school is capped at 21 in grades K through 3rd. And from what I've seen, the upper grades are under 20. we love it.

My current 3yo is in a class with 15 kids and 2 teachers. That seems just right.

Our public elementary school will have ~27 kids in each class. The kindergarten class has an aide but from first grade on, those kids will have only 1 teacher.

All the private schools seem to have class sizes of <20 kids per class. I personally like the schools with around 15 kids per class.

It really depends on the child and the teacher. My older DD had 31 kids and it was fine. Younger had 25 and it seemed high.

I cannot get comfortable with sending my kids to a class with 25+ other kids in a class. We are leaning towards private school because of this.
