I tried the free month for my Kindle Fire but at 11.99 a month, it isn't worth it to me. I had hoped to do online instead of my daily paper subscription and just keep Sunday delivery (I love all the inserts) I would miss the "paper in my hands" especially on weekends. When I called to talk about stopping my daily paper, they offered me a better rate than what I had. $80 for the year for 7 day delivery vs. $145 for Kindle subscription. I'm keeping the daily paper subscription.

Huh. It looked to me like the Kindle version was cheaper than full subscription to the paper version. Anyone with the Kindle subscription out there? I'm getting a Kindle soon and was planning on doing the Post subscription.

The reason I really like the paper in hand is that I see things like Carolyn Hax's column or parenting or education columns that I don't see when I just pop onto msnbc.com or washpost.com or whatever. Yes, I realize the columns ARE on line, but they are more hidden and I probably won't see them if I cancel the hardcopy. I like to see the local section and what's been proposed as a building project, I read the crime report and home sales reports, I read a lot of the "little" one-paragraph articles all over the paper. I read the Food section and the Health Sections and the Local Sections every week. Looking at the website, I just catch the top news headlines and move on. So, I WILL miss it.

Just cancelled our at home delivery because of the outrageous charge.

What costs is the specialized app for the WaPo. The website is free.

Anyone who subscribes to the post is a sucker - you can get the entire paper for free online. and I agree with the PPs - the quality of the Post has really declined in the past couple of years which is probably why they can't charge like the NY Times. If they charged, everyone would just read the Times instead.

I too recently cancelled my home subscription and honestly, don't miss it. I read the NYT online (headlines) and occasionally scan the WaPo but IMHO it's really gone downhill lately with nothing but silly fluff articles; no hard hitting stuff anymore so even though I am local I don't read it as much as I'd like to support the Post, I just can't. Like another poster said, the suck.

The Examiner is right wing trash. Of course it's free. Much rather read the Post's Express, which is also trash, but at least it's fun.

Of course the Washington Examiner and NY Post are free. Nobody would bother with that rubbish if it were not.

I think the Washington Examiner is quite possibly the worst newspaper on the East Coast. Weird straw man stories, horrible columnists, and mediocre sports coverage.

The NY Post is, well, the NY Post.

All of WaPo's online content is still free. The NY Times has recently limited access to online readers (only 10 free articles per month now). I suspect the Post will have to go that way soon as well. I canceled my paper subscription a while back, so I understand why you are doing the same, but by us doing this, we are only worsening the Post's in the red status. That's why we'll soon have to pay.

I currently get the full week of WaPo. Always have. Love to have my morning paper. However, for quite some time, I find myself looking at the frontpage only during breakfast and then not finding time to read the rest of the front section or any of the other sections until 9:00 p.m. I really like the Post for giving me the local stories about schools/crime/development. But, it often is one more thing I feel obligated to do before the day ends. I also hate all the paper I accumulate in my recycling bin and feel I could be more ecologically sound if I didn't have it in hard copy every day.

I'm thinking of switching to just the Sunday service. However, I recall seeing something recently from the Post saying the online version will cost $9.99/mo. unless you have full week service (in which case the on line is free).

If I give up the delivery will I have to pay for certain online services or access of any kind?
