The house itself is great and I would love to renovate and redecorate. You have to look beyond the cosmetic when viewing a house. Otherwise you just end up asking WHY? why are there white knobs on the wood cabinets in the bathroom? Why are the kitchen cabinets and cabinet pulls so cheap looking? Why is there WTW pile carpet in the master bedroom? Why a purple bedspread? Why stained glass windows more suited for a 1970s suburban tract house in the kitchen? Why a cut-glass chandelier in the dining room with casual furniture? None of those whys matter because you can change all of them and make the house extremely livable and attracticve.

The only things catching my eye are the patios, decks and balconies. Those are sweet.

I love it as well. I love the balcony over the porch and many, many other features of the house. Just a tad out of my price range though

Ok-- looked again. Maybe not ruined, since a reasonable number of features were preserved, and interior ornament was passing out of fashion when this was built, anyway.

Still-- meh. I don't think 1920s SFHs are especially pretty. The row houses nearby that are 10 years older are really something, though.

I dunno. It really needs redecorating. The grandma selling it is chic-er than most, but it's still very dated.

The lot size : house ratio is not surprising at all for an urban property. I live a 10-minute walk away in a more vibrant neighborhood but don't really "get" Kalorama's appeal beyond the architecture of the fine, elegant row houses. This one is not an especially good example on the outside, and the inside has been ruined in the course of its (no doubt quite expensive) renovations.

I really like this, even subtracting all the artwork.
Funny that there is more space in the house than in the lot. But garden very pretty...
