one has to wonder where the Op goes to school. Some DC schools probably give out high grades

Bates in Maine -- fantastic school, and test optional.

100 years ago I got a 660 in Math and a 460 in Verbal.

It was so odd. Ends up - I found out I was dyslexic. But I did not find this out until my son was diagnosed.

I was 40 when I found out.

Op, any chance ?

Why are the SAT scores so low but GPA is so high? Not a good test taker, but you take test in class and obviously do well, if you have such a great GPA.

What the hell! OP, these are incredibly low test scores considering your gpa. Work your ass off this summer prepping. Use a SAT program/tutor and review, review, review SAT prep books. You must have had a clue from the PSAT scores.

Right, cuz we adults never waste time on DCUM . . . . It's the first week or so of summer, give the kid a break!

We plan to investigate the growing list of colleges that are "test score optional." These include Elon and Loyola Maryland but also schools like Wake Forest (not 100% positive about Wake). Check out those colleges and if you're happy with your options, I'd concentrate on senior year, AP grades/scores, and the college essay and apps. Otherwise you'll need to spend your time studying to increase reading score. If you don't test well on standardized tests, wouldn't you like to go to a school that doesn't judge you based on your test scores? GL. I'd be interested in hearing what you decide as my daughter will likely be in the same boat next year.

Well, you're a decent standardized test taker in math. What do you think your issue is with the reading/writing sections? Did you take the prep class? They're worth it. Take two. Or three this summer.

You'll probably want to concentrate on colleges with "Tech" in their name.

Specifically - your math is good, not great. Those below median writing and critical reading scores are problems. You want to aim for 600, at least.

Ouch. You want to bring that up a lot.

1520 out of 1600 or out of 2400? What's your unweighted GPA? What state do you live in? Do you want big or small school? In state or out of state?

Anyway you are probably better off posting on College Confidential for current experience rather than the people who wil pipe in here with their experiences 20 years ago.

What's your SAT score breakdown?

1520 and 4.2 gpa with all ap courses (STEM program) going into my senior year this fall. Not a strong test taker and plan on taking the SAT again. What will be my options if the SAT score does not go up?
