How did you break into the field? Do you have a medical background?

Medical Device Sales Rep. here. I'm in my mid-30's, average looking, and I think I do well financially. Last yr. I made $160k and I was home most days to pick up DD at daycare at 4pm.
FWIW, if the other moms at daycare make fun of me behind by back I could really care less. I make great money, have flexibility to do what ever the hell I want during the day (dry cleaning, grocery shopping, etc.) and create my own schedule. As long as my sales numbers are on-par with expectations I don't have anyone up my ass micro-managing me. I've been in this line of work for 7 years and couldn't be happier. I'll never sit in an office again.

They look for sales experience. There are numbers you have to make each quarter. If you don't make those numbers, they fire you. You have to have a lot of discipline, focus and drive. You can make money in sales, but it's not for everyone. There are companies that copy documents for legal profession. Those sale reps makes a lot more then the lawyers.

WTF i am in medical sales and its nothing like what people describe. There is a lot of technical knowledge and likability, wining and dining maybe happened back in the 80s. T

he pay is ok I would say 120k to 250k (medical sales in general). In terms of employment right now there are some concerns with the healthcare reform bill and extra taxes being added so the industry is a little wary with hiring.

high school? who cares if this mom's "job" fits in to what the other parents do. as for the dr moms making fun of her, i certainly hope they are not my doctors. i worked at a medical practice during university and i can tell you that the reps were treated just fine. no
one ever accused them of being a few steps away from "strippers". which, by the way, is a ridiculous statement. but i am certain you've been called an insuffrable snob before.

You are a complete loser. I have a feeling that the other mom would laugh if she knew "you feel bad for her." I think you meant to write that you "feel badly" for her. In such a competitive and prestige-oriented (you forgot the hyphen) area, you need to learn how to write and speak properly.

Also, in this area, most women don't compare other women to strippers because they work in sales.

OP, I know someone who does this in California. He's a good-looking guy, I guess, and he went to Pepperdine, so he's certainly bright. He lives in La Jolla in a gorgeous house with wife number two. They seem happy; he's a nice guy and pretty hard-working and loyal.

Who cares what doctors think? Like they are the pillars of morality. What a joke. Most of them are arrogant scum bags, a step above attorney's. The only differences between them and pharma sales people are 1) more debt 2)more arrogance 3) more "education". But they are all scum.

I know two good looking blonde women who did/do this. Part of the job is to wine and dine doctors. I do think that they do well financially.

Are they all good looking? That's a must in pharm sales.

So over the past 3 years I have seen a few friends jump into this career and make well into 6 figures with no prior sales background. Two were laid off men who started when they could not find something in their fields and one is an ex SAHM who had an un-used bachelors of English and absolutely no job experience what so ever. It seems way to good to be true but all three of these people are humble and honest and I really don't think they are inflating numbers. If you are in this line of work, or know someone who is, what is the secret? It seems too good to be true but very tempting, as I am in a low paying field and ready for a change!
