I have not painted it. Nice to know that that is an option, though. We will probably have to pressure wash it every year anyway because of the way our deck is situated with a lot of trees around it. It looks great every year until late May when all the pollen from out oak trees drop, then it gets really dirty. We don't mind washing it, teenage DS has been doing it last couple of years.


Thanks. Btw, when i said painting, i meant using a solid stain, not actual paint -- one should never paint a deck with paint

OP here. Anyone have experience with Trex Transcend? We just got another quote and the guy suggested this material because it will not fade like Azec will.

The Trex material warps in the heat. I believe there is even a class-action lawsuit against them now.

We also have Azec. I was worried that the plastic would look crummy but it is great. Cleans easily..no splinters..

We avoided Trex after reading the issues online. We went with Veranda (they also go by another name but I am blanking) on our front porch. It was an easy DIY and looks great a few years later. We've had no issues with it at all. We also got the Veranda railing.

We have trex, probably 10 years old. All of the composite decks require cleaning to avoid mold...I use corte-clean, never bleach, once every 2 years. Still looks as good as the day it was installed.

Azek is cellular PVC (not standard vynil), and feels, looks and can be cut/sanded/drilled like real wood. It's the least maintenance material available.

We have a Trex deck that was built about a year ago and already has mold stains. We definitely regret using Trex.

We are putting in a deck and are looking for as low maintenance a material as possible. We heard that composites tend to mold and that vinyl materials are a lower maintenance option. Just wondered if anyone out there has any experience with composites and/or vinyl decking materials and can let me know what they think of them. Thanks so much!
