Questions Is Westland MS consideted a good school? Is it, as I presume, better regarded than Deal in DC? And is Bethesda-CC HS considered a good school? I guess it must be better than Wilson in DC, right?

I can assure you that when school dismisses that BCC and Westland students do no flock to the Metro and start robbing people like they do at Deal and Wilson.

Can you provide some evidence of this "flocking" problem? Flocking implies large groups, do you have evidence of this?

If the Post and the local news stations occasionally report about the fighting, robberies, snatching of electronic devices at the Tenleytown Metro by "youth" would that be good enough?

No, occasional reports do not equal "flocking", which implies large numbers. There are also several other schools in that area. There have been occasional reports of students presumed to be from Westland stealing from the stores at Westbard too.

I agree totally with this. We left DC and moved to BCC cluster because of this.

That doesn't mean that there aren't kids who can go thru JKLM/Deal/Wilson and come out with good college opportunities, but overall the academic opportunities are much better in MoCo for all kinds of kids. Although, even in MoCo, there are problems.

Signed the Mom to MoCo magnet and special needs kids.

This is based on what? Considering I've had a child go through RHPS/CC and JLKM (one of them), the only difference from my point of view is the resources that the parents bring.

Now that we are comparing schools, would you say that Sligo Creek (French Immersion) is better than JKLMM / comparable to RHPS/Chevy Chase ES, in terms of academics?

PP has it correct. The only boundary change for RHPS affects those students who would have gone to BE for grades 3-6. All the homes zoned for CCES or NCC remain at RHPS. There are lots of threads on this board about RHPS and a few on CCES. My child just finished Grade 2 and RHPS and had a terrific experience. Can't comment yet on CCES or NCC but hear only great things, same for BCC. Most of these schools are likely (not certain) to use the new middle school when that is completed in lower Kensington in a few years, and the school system will end the practice of having 6th graders at CCES and NCC.

It's hard to make an objective comparison with the NWDC schools since there are very few families that have direct experience in both systems, but I have no reason to believe that the JKLwhatever schools are superior to RHPS/CCES/NCC/Westland/BCC. Talk to real people, OP - neighbors in the area you're looking, PTAs (ours all have great listservs), etc.

Questions: Is the split between Rosemary Hills and Chevy Chase ES going to be phased out, as I read somewhere else -- that is, are Bethesda/CC kids going to attend only Chevy Chase ES for K-5 beginning soon?

Not exactly. As part of the new articulation, some neighborhoods (mainly East Bethesda) currently going to RHPS for K-2 then Bethesda ES for 3-5 will stop doing that and go to Bethesda ES for K-5 instead. Neighborhoods that are still assigned to Chevy Chase and North Chevy Chase will continue to go to RHPS for K-2 then CC or NCC for 3-6 until the new middle school is complete (hopefully fall 2017) then 6th graders will be in the middle school as they are everywhere else in the county.

Post 06/20/2012 10:17     Subject: Basic questions about MCPSs assigned to Bethesda/Chevy Chase

Planning to move from DC to Bethesda/Chevy Chase. Although I will most likely send my DC to private school, I am interested to know about the MCPS I would be IB to in the event I chose to send DC to public. I am unfamiliar with MCPS. Based on the probable addresses I might move to, this is the info I am getting from the MCPS website:

"Cluster/Consortium: Bethesda-Chevy Chase Cluster
High School: 406 - Bethesda-Chevy Chase HS
Middle School: 412 - Westland MS
Elementary School: 403 - Chevy Chase ES
Elementary School: 794 - Rosemary Hills ES
Special Note: Rosemary Hills serves grades PreK-2 and Chevy Chase serves grades 3-6.
Special Note: Chevy Chase ES and North Chevy Chase ES are scheduled to serve grades 3-6 until school year 2016-2017 but will no longer serve grade 6 starting in school year 2017-2018 when a new middle school is scheduled to open. "

Questions: Is the split between Rosemary Hills and Chevy Chase ES going to be phased out, as I read somewhere else -- that is, are Bethesda/CC kids going to attend only Chevy Chase ES for K-5 beginning soon? Is Chevy Chase ES considered a good/better than average school for MoCo standards? Is it comparable than the JKLMM schools in DC? Is Westland MS consideted a good school? Is it, as I presume, better regarded than Deal in DC? And is Bethesda-CC HS considered a good school? I guess it must be better than Wilson in DC, right?

(I hope I am not offending anyone -- I am just simply curious.) Thanks!
