I'm Italian and DH is Vietnamese so we have some good cookin' at home I mostly enjoy southern Italian and Northern Vietnamese (though central Vietnamese is good, too -- southern is a little too sweet for my tastes).

I also love Thai, Korean, Japanese (kanto region, bring on the natto!), Greek, Ethiopian, Lebanese, Chinese (mostly Cantonese, Fujian and Sichuan), Peruvian, Mexican and Tex Mex, and god help me, German food (can't get enough sauerkraut and mustard, not to mention good beer).

But hell, I have practically never tried a cuisine or food I didn't like. I even think there's good to be found in the comparatively bland anglo cuisines. Though, frankly, I'd always choose a feistier cuisine if available!

I adore middle eastern, Vietnamese, Korean, french, Greek, Italian. Indian is a bit heavy handed on the spices for me, but that having been said the food at Bombay Palace is spectacular. I love any dishes that make a point of contrasting sweet, savory, tart...pomegranate, yogurt, tahini, lemon....sigh.

I would love to try authentic Chinese food sometime. I think even in the most "authentic" places I have ever eaten (Clement St in San Francisco, not Chinatown, etc) are still serving up all their dishes from giant plastic tubs labeled "Sysco Food Supply: Brown Sauce". I find even places that tout not using MSG are likely using a premade sauce loaded with the stuff.

I like lots of area's foods, but if I had to pick, I'd go with Italian, followed by Indian and Middle Eastern.

It's impossible to pick one. But, if I had to eat only one country's cuisine for the rest of my life, it would be either French or Chinese. French because it really is the bedrock of western cuisine (and also imports lots of different flavors from around the world) and Chinese because it's so huge, you can really het just about anything. Chinese cuisine is a misnomer, but for these purposes, it serves me well.

I love Ethiopian food. Although, I have only had it here in the US so who knows if what I have been eating is really what they eat in Ethiopia. Regardless, it is DELICIOUS!

Vietnamese and indian are my faves followed by thai and Italian. Least fave is chinese.

I think southeast asian is the best, Indonesian if I had to pick one. I don't think your theory is correct thought. Mali, Burkina Faso, Chad, Sudan are on the equator but their food is nothing to write home about. Similar for central america - not the most exciting cuisine, and worse than Mexican further from the equator. And Italian food is much better than Tunisian.

Pretty much any Vietnamese food I've had is delicious.

But, I'm not sure about your hypothesis. I lived in Germany for several years and yes, I like German food. There's nothing like a good schnitzel mit spaetzle.

Indian food is my favorite food. I love cooking with all of the different spices.

Heading to Ireland with the family next month, and I am "dreading" the food. In my opinion, the closer to the equator, the better the food (exotic fruits, more spice, etc). So this got me thinking- what is your favorite cuisine? I'm between Indonesian (peanut sauce!) and ANY Indian food. I guess I'm partial to Asian cuisine.
