Prep work, baking, sauces, etc. And when it rains or is too cold. But cooking outside sure makes clean up a lot easier in the summer.
A couple of things that make grilling easy - good lighting, a gas grill that is linked to the gas line rather than a tank, and proximity to the kitchen. I would love an outdoor kitchen but I am not sure it is practical for the DC area so we settle for the grill.
