What is this "value" of a small liberal arts college that you reference? Many today have real concerns about attending such institutions questioning whether one can have a rewarding career upon graduation. Does Hamilton have a good placment into graduate/law schools etc.?

I'm the Hamilton grad again. A large percentage of Hamilton students are from the NY/NJ/CT area (and 2nd is probably Boston/New England)...In our area, I find that people who "know" liberal arts schools know of Hamilton but people in this area who tend to focus on big schools (UVA/UMD/Georgetown) have often not heard of Hamilton. This doesn't bother me as I know the value in a small, liberal arts education but this might bother some...

It is definitely isolated but most students embrace that aspect of the school. I knew I would live my life around a metropolitan area so this was a finite period of time during which I could enjoy the solace that comes with living in the middle of nowhere! Because of this, relationships become the focus of the college experience--relationships with peers and with faculty.

Re: curriculum. I am old enough so that I did have to meet certain distribution requirements. They have since created a much broader curriculum that allows much more freedom for students. My advisor was helpful back then so my guess is that current students rely even more heavily on the advisor's guidance in choosing classes.

There are two main changes since I was a Hamilton student: they have since abolished frats and they have spent a ton of $ on buildings, some new and some old beautiful frat houses that have been renovated to be dorms and administrative bldgs.

Ask any other questions!

How did you find the curriculum and the professors? Also, many complain that it is too "isolated". Thoughts?

I am a proud Hamilton graduate! I have only glowing things to say about the school so ask any specific questions and I will answer.

Feels New England though.

I don't know what this means.

Regardless, New York is not part of New England.

Good school. Strong academics. Kind of out in the middle of nowhere, but if your child is into outdoor activities and enjoys small, cohesive campus life, it could be an excellent fit. Lots of private school kids attending.

Hard to get in to. I loved it when we toured it a couple of years ago. All the kids I know there seem to love it.
