As a pp noted, check the Bedbugregistry.com. Then google the name of the hotel and the words "bed bug." Then google how to search for bedbugs when you get to your hotel room. These days, some areas have multiple hotels that have complaints listed. When I went to Rutgers, I had a hard time finding a hotel near the university without a complaint. It helps to see how many complaints there are and how the hotel handles them and then to do a search yourself.

But you ultimately have to figure out how to search for them yourself. Just because a hotel doesn't have a report doesn't mean they aren't there. And also you don't know how many of those reports might be malicious reports from competitors.

This sucks - but you don't want to bring those little buggers back home with you!

Really liked the Hilton at 6th Ave and 53rd. It's huge, so you can find coffee and breakfast (and drinks, if that's what you need) on site. Plenty of cabs and several subway stops within a few blocks. Walking distance to Central Park, Rockefeller Center, MoMA and 5th Avenue shops. I've stayed in lots of hotel rooms in the city and theirs are a very decent size by NYC standards.

You just can't ever be sure about bed bugs because they can get picked up anywhere, but I feel more confident with a huge global brand like Hilton. They've got a lot to lose with a bed bug problem so they're more likely to really hit it hard if it crops up.

I don't work for them but I am a Hilton Honors member and have never encountered bed bugs at any of their properties.

The Hampton inn on w 31st. We called prior and they said they do preventive treatment for bedbugs every 2 months. It's also clean and in a convenient location

That review for the affinia is for a different affinia than the one on 34th st. I know there's a few in manhattan but can't say if they are the same quality.

We stayed at the Residence Inn Times square back at Christmas time. I have no complaints about it...our room even had a nice view of the Empire State Building.

It was my son (age 10) and I for a little getaway to see the Rocketts Christmas show. We walked to hotel from the train station...and also walked to everything we did

Affinia reviews from trip advisor:
“Bed Bugs At Affinia - Terrible”

My wife and I stayed for 1 night on a business trip from Boston - The following day we returned home both with terrible red bites all over our back and arms from staying in there bed. I called the manager 3 times with no return call. Finally called for a 4th time and they said they would have the room exterminated and that this is a general problem in NY and unless I provided a doctors note they would not consider a refund.....I have stayed at many hotels in NY and have never had bug bites maybe its a problem at Affinia and not NY.

“Possible bed bugs -- beware!”

The Affinia Manhattan seems like a nice enough hotel, but after waking up with multiple bites on my arms and legs, I'm beginning to suspect bed bugs. I checked the mattress upon arrival and didn't see anything. Unfortunately, the staff had countless empty promises to check and call me. But they didn't. Stay at your own risk.

Yeah but you can never really tell, which is why I thought maybe I'd hear a few suggestions that are gems. Inns, rentals etc.
