Shady as in "we pretend to be nice, but watch your back" type of thing. Plus something is just not quite right about how they do business. They've been in business for a long time but I just get a funny feeling.

Yes, I worry about having to ask too many questions if I take job #2. I don't want to bother people, but I feel like I might have to because I do need a little bit of direction at this point. I love the independent work environment, but right now I feel as if it would be beneficial to have that guidance.

21:20- The pay is about the same, but the bonus potential makes #1 pay more.

#2 seems like the best fit for me overall. But I just wanted to make sure it's not dumb to pass up such good training and mentorship opportunities.

By shady do you mean not telling you the truth about training, can't make payroll or will go out of business shady? Because honestly 3 years at a company with a strong training/team environment is like 5-6 years at a place without it in terms of what you can learn.

At the company with little to no training, do the nice people have time to answer your questions? Is there any documentation on the area you have to support? How tolerant will they be of someone learning? People may want to help but if they are overworked and if they aren't getting evaluation credit in helping you or it isn't part of someone's job to make sure you get what you need, you could flounder. You can do a lot on your own to pick something up but having examples, or standards of what the finished product should look like, and people that will set aside time to help you and answer questions at the company, and a network of people (could be online) that do something similar at other companies will be crucial at job2.

Who pays more?

Job 2 for sure. Eventually you won't need the training or hand holding as you get used to the new field and it sounds like a better, trustworthy, happy environment. Is there a difference in pay between the 2?

Easily job #2. No way I'd work for a shady company, and most people learn by doing.

how much to you believe about the training in job #1? if you get a shady vibe from the place and the team lead, i would be curious about how much of everything else is true. many companies say that have great training opportunities but employees don't have time to actually do it, or you have to be one of the "chosen" to get to take it. also, "team" effort is sometimes code for "someone else takes the credit for your work."

Yes, I think #2 is better, but I hesitate because of the growth and development that could come from #1.

Depends on where I am with my life. Turned down a job that would have been a stepping stone to expanding my career because I didn't trust company and dd was in crisis. If I'd felt it was a supportive place I would have gone for it or if dd had not been having serious problems I just would have toughed it out till I was ready to move on but I didn't have the emotional energy to deal with a crisis at home and possible backstabbing at work.

I would pick Job #2. I wouldn't want to work for a company that I feel is shady and.or secretive.

Assume this is a new field you wish to break into.

Job #1- Great training, a lot of support and hand holding. Great performance-based incentives. Really focused on the "team, team, team". But you don't fully trust the company. You didn't really hit it off with one of the team leads and there's just something secretive/shady about the company. Also, teams are great, but sometimes you have to be an individual. This company doesn't seem to like individuals and they really give a lot of public feedback- good or bad. It's a highly competitive environment.

Job #2- Little to no training (keep in mind, you are new and know nothing), there's a team but it's more independent. You will really have to just figure things out. However, things seem more transparent, they seem to move at a quicker pace, and you don't get any funny feelings. It's just nice people. It's not a competition. They are all just there to do their best.

Overall you feel that you will learn more in Job #1 and that will help your skills and make you more marketable. However, you think you will like job #2 better but you will be confused for awhile because the training and mentorship is not on par with job #1. Both jobs allow telecommuting. Pay is about the same.
