Have you seen VCU lately? I have not but have heard several times that it's much improved since I don't know when. VCU is also enjoying a surge in applications thanks to Shanka Smart and crew. DS will be checking it out this year. I'd love to hear any recent intel on VCU.

Considered comparable to the elite new England privates, sp great rep in the northeast, not so much elsewhere. But considering the wasington-Boston corridor isnthe largest employment center in the country, that's probably good enough.

I was a freshman on spring break, unfortunately in Florida, not at Cole Field House, so I only saw the last 3 minutes (the only part of the game that was nationally televised). Our waiter for lunch the next day was a Syracuse grad [insert snarky comment here] - we left his tip (a good one!) in change in the shape of the score - 73-69.
Ha ha! Well, Richmond deserved the credit. They beat us fair and square.

We recently moved to Richmond - has a great rep - folks I have met who went there are very often from NY/NJ/CT but they stay...

Has a good reputation. Kids around here shoot for UVA or Wm and Mary first. Richmond offers fantastic scholarships for instate kids who are really strong ( TJ/Maggie Walker kids)

I have a few friends who graduated from there in the mid-90s and they all have said that it was a lot of NJ folks too! (and other Northeasters)

I graduated from there 10 yrs ago. Most of my class, including myself, was from the northeast. Also, FWIW I worked for a while in entry level recruiting at a consulting firm, and it was a school most hiring managers had high regard for.

In my graduating class (nearly 20 years ago) there were more kids from NJ than VA. I don't imagine that's changed. It also used to be one of the better values in libral arts education - no more.

Well it's private so that makes a big difference in terms of who can afford to go there. They seem very focused on geographical diversity so people outside VA know it more than inside. We know a lot of people who have applied there. It seems like its rep is quite recent. My DC (not from VA) visited it but did not apply.

I was surprised to find out that University of Richmond is about as difficult to get into as UVA or W&M. I'm a life long VA resident, and I've barely heard of the school. You would think a school that's so selective would have decent name recognition. Can anyone not originally from VA offer any insight as to how it's regarded?
